Pregnancy Massage

Here at Anatomy Chester were are experts in Pregnancy massage.  Our therapists are all specifically trained in pregnancy massage which not only differs from a standard massage but also as your pregnancy progresses techniques and pressure points change.

Pregnancy massage is a gentle, relaxing massage that can be used safely throughout the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. It is a popular complementary therapy that can be used for back pain when choices for pain relief, such as medication, can be limited.  From weeks 38 onwards there are specific techniques and pressure points we can stimulate which are meant to help with the induction of labour.  This suggestion is very hard to prove as it is hard to know if labour would have happened anyway, but it may be worth a try……

During the treatment, a massage chair is used to support the upper body and many women report finding it extremely comfortable to sit in.  Full body massages are still possible if required through side lying, which is also made comfortable through the use of extra pillows.  At no point will you be asked to lie on your stomach, or back in the latter stages of pregnancy.

These positions allow for a deeper massage to be done to the upper back and legs – areas which can get quite tight and sore due to the increased pressure on the body.

Benefits of pregnancy massage may include:

  • Eases aching muscles, particularly in upper back
  • Improved circulation
  • Helps with fluid retention in the legs
  • Relieves tiredness and fatigue from the extra weight carried
  • Helps you to relax from the pressures of the pregnancy and gives you a bit of pampering before your baby arrives

All our therapists in Chester are qualified in pregnancy massage and for those pains that are more complex both senior therapists can help with our pregnancy physiotherapy service.
